Myanmar quake toll climbs to 60
YANGON: More than 60 people were killed and 90 others injured after a strong earthquake hit near the Myanmar border with Thailand, an official said Friday that some affected areas remained cut off.
The earthquake on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), measured at magnitude 6.8, was felt to Bangkok, about 800 kilometers (500 miles) from the epicenter, and parts of Hanoi China.
An official of Myanmar, dozens of people were killed in areas near the epicenter and more than 240 buildings collapsed.
"The death toll has risen to over 60 today in these areas, including Tarlay, mines and townships Tachileik Lin,"said the official.
"About 90 people were injured in these areas. Officials are still trying to reach some areas most affected. There are some places where we can not yet reached. "(AFP)
