Hague urges quick NATO command of Libya operation

LONDON: Foreign Secretary William Hague has urged NATO Thursday to take command of the Libyan operations as quickly as possible, while pleading a "stabilization force" led by the UN in the longer term.
His comments came as the alliance made further attempts to resolve a disagreement about who will take control of a coalition under U.S. command by launching air strikes against the forces of Muammar Gaddafi.
"This coalition operations are currently under U.S. command. But we want to make the transition to NATO command and control as quickly as possible, "he told parliament in The Hague.
"NATO has already launched its operation to enforce the arms embargo. Planning is complete for the no-fly zone. And we are making progress in NATO to take any action under (UNSC) Resolution 1973 to protect civilians against Gadhafi? s attacks
He said a "unified command and control" was necessary for operations to "robust" and added: ". We expect to get that soon"
Great Britain United States and France are leading efforts to enforce a no-fly zone authorized by the Security Council of UN Resolution 1973 to protect civilians against attacks by the forces Gaddafi.
Hague said Britain was also in talks on post-conflict situation in Libya, where rebels are fighting to end the 41 years of Kadhafi rule. - (AFP)
