Andrew Gold, “Golden Girls” Theme Writer, Dies
If you're wondering why "ThankYouForBeingAFriend" is currently a subject Trends on Twitter, you probably have not heard of another piece of television history that has drifted off a quiet resting place above the clouds. Andrew Gold, the singer / songwriter who wrote the lyrics to the theme song of the 80 memorable sitcom The Golden Girls, died earlier this month.
Now married with three daughters, was 59 when he died in his sleep after suffering a massive heart attack. The Los Angeles native began writing songs when he was 13 and found success on the professional level in the 1970s - even working with Linda Ronstadt singing Central. He scored his biggest hit with the song 1977 "Lonely Boy", the single was featured on the album What's Wrong With This Picture? and continued to make several appearances on the big screen, notably in Boogie Nights and The Boy water. Gold received the gold again next year, the organization "Thanks for being a friend." In 1985, this song was chosen as the theme for a new NBC comedy, which settled on the lineup Saturday night.
