World’s most expensive camera from 1923 sells for more than £1m - at least it still works perfectly


A picture is usually worth a thousand words - but they are worth much more if they are taken by the camera the most expensive in the world - worth more than £ 1MILLION amazing.

Extremely rare model, a Leica 0-series has been described as being in "excellent condition and fully working" with the Vienna gallery WestLicht, who organized held its auction.

It was bought for a world record £ 1.15m by a private collector from Asia who wanted to remain anonymous, said the gallery

The camera was one of some 25 prototypes in 1923, two years before the German mark came into commercial production.

He was evaluated before the auction at about £ 273 000.

A gallery spokesman said: "This is the only known device with Germany stamped on the top plate.

"The record indicates factory delivery in New York to obtain a patent applies.

"This means that camera is not only one of the few existing large, it is also the first Leica being exported.

The previous world record price for a camera was set last year when a collector paid £ 732 000 for a daguerreotype - the first commercially produced aircraft.
