WASHINGTON: A Pakistani-American was sentenced Monday to 23 years in prison for plotting attacks on subway stations around the capital of the United States with people he believed al Qaeda.

The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to provide material support to terrorist organizations and gather information to help plan a terrorist attack, U.S. officials said.

A federal judge also sentenced Ahmed to 50 years probation after prison, as part of a plea agreement between prosecutors and lawyers Ahmed.
