China Tells US to Quit as Human Rights Judge

The United States is plagued by violence, racism and torture and has no authority to condemn the governments of other human rights issues, China said Sunday against U.S. criticism of the crackdown in Beijing.

The line between Beijing and Washington over human rights has increased since the ruling Communist Party of China has extended its crackdown against dissidents and rights activists, a move that has sparked an outcry from Washington and other governments West.

The Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, is the most important activists being arrested by the police or secret detention in the latest crackdown.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday she was "deeply troubled" by it, and he cited "negative trends" including detention Amnesty International.

A U.S. State Department report on Global Human Rights on Friday said Beijing had stepped up restrictions on lawyers, activists, bloggers and journalists, and tightened controls on civil society.

It also increased its efforts to control the press, Internet and Internet access, the report said.

But China showed no signs of weakness against foreign pressure.

Its foreign ministry on Saturday rejected the U.S. report as interference, and its own annual report on human rights in the United States said haughtily Beijing.
