Protestors clash with police in Mohali
Mohali, India: angry demonstrators threw stones and clashed with police outside the stadium of the Punjab Cricket Association on Monday in preparation for Wednesday India and Pakistan Cricket World Cup semi- final.
At batons and police security forces on horseback tried to push a crowd estimated at 1000 strong as a protest outside the stadium have gone wrong. A Reuters witness said that seven people were arrested and taken to a police van.
wounded men were lying on the ground after trying to escape police action, while women in traditional dress salwar kameez were seen at the shelter. Television reports suggested the protests related to government employment in Punjab.
A heavy police presence surrounded the 30,000-seat stadium since the two neighbors set up the highly anticipated confrontation last week.
The local police told Reuters the event was not related to the shortage of tickets that angered fans in several Indian cities during the past five weeks.
violence last month in Bangalore erupted after tens of thousands of fans who had spent the night outside the 38,400-seat Stade M Chinnaswamy said all the 7,000 tickets allocated for sale to public on February 27 v India match against England had been sold.
Police also used batons to control the angry fans on this occasion and similar scenes were observed in Nagpur on March 8 at the approach of group match of India with South Africa.
Ticket sales for February 19 to April 2 tournament proved to be a real headache for the organizers of the Indians, who are unable to meet demand for high-level matches, especially those featuring the Team of the house and on 2 April in Mumbai Wankhede Stadium.
