Oman detains anti-government protesters


MUSCAT: Oman has adopted several anti-government militants who participated in demonstrations that began last month in an industrial town in the North.

Events in Sohar - inspired by uprisings that hit the Arab world - have insisted that more jobs, wage increases and a greater role in public policy from the Gulf countries.

Oman Attorney General said several demonstrators were part of a sit-in at Sohar is in custody Tuesday morning. He did not say how many were arrested.

Thousands of workers and pro-reform activists have staged strikes and sit-ins across Oman, including the capital Muscat and Sohar.

The sultanate is strategically important because it shares control of the waterway of the Gulf which is 40 per cent of traffic in the world petroleum with Iran....
