AB de Villiers and captain Graeme Smith guided South Africa to an easy victory over a seven wicket of West Indies in World Cup Group B match here at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Thursday.
Chasing a modest total of 223, South Africa lost two early wickets, only 20 runs. Kemar Roach was Hashim Amla caught behind for 14, and Suleiman Benn dismissed Jaquis Kallis for four.
However, opener Graeme Smith and AB de Villiers saved the Proteas, making together 119 runs for the third wicket partnership.
Smith's patient innings ended when Kieron Pollard bowled him for 45 from 78 balls.
De Villiers joined Jean-Paul Duminy and both cruised to comfortable win in South Africa with 44 balls remaining, but not before de Villiers completed his tenth ODI hundred with 97 balls.
He remained unbeaten on 107 and Duminy was 42 not out ..
Earlier, leg-counter Imran Tahir captured four wickets on debut as South Africa bundled out West Indies for 222 in 47.3 overs despite a fine 73 to Darren Bravo.
Tahir (4-41) was well supported outside of the counter, Johan Botha, who opened the attack and gave the Proteas key breakthroughs in the spin-dominated day-night clash at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
Duet justified the decision of captain Graeme Smith on the field three specialists counters on the ground, which holds its first international in a year after the banned hazardous playing surface.
Darren Bravo led the charge of the West Indies with his 82-ball knock, when his older half-brother, Duane chipped in with 37-ball 40 with three sixes and four after the Caribbean side were put into bat.
Bravo also shared 111 runs for the second wicket with a knife after Devon Smith early release Chris Gayle.
Botha, sharing new ball with fast bowler Dale Steyn, struck off the third ball of the innings to remove Gayle, who was trying to play on the side of the foot, but edged it to first slip, where Jacques Kallis took a low catch.
Botha (2-48) struck again in the 24 th over, just as Bravo and Smith threatened to endure tremendous partnership.
