Spain Madrid: 2 dead, 2 injured in military academy blast

Madrid: Spain Defense Ministry said two people were killed and two wounded in the apparently accidental explosion at a military engineering academy outside Madrid.

Ministry official said the cause of the explosion on Thursday in Hoyo de Manzanares is under investigation, but he ruled out a terrorist act. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in accordance with Ministry regulations.

The official says the facility houses a school, where soldiers are taught to turn off the mines, but it was not clear if the mine was to cause an explosion.

In June 2011, one officer killed and six injured after an accidental explosion of a bomb disposal unit in the Civil Guard barracks, training outside Madrid.
