CAIRO: The authorities arrested the former Egyptian Minister of Housing suspicion he was involved in the illegal sale of public lands for reduced prices.
Mohammed Ibrahim Suleiman, who was arrested Wednesday, is the latest senior member of the deposed regime of President Hosni Mubarak to be taken into custody. The officials are being investigated on charges related to corruption, with many have used their positions in government contracts convenience broker.
Suleiman has served as Minister of Housing from 1993 to 2006. Critics say that during this period, the state-owned land were sold at reduced prices to businessmen close to the ruling party.
Successor of Suleiman, Ahmed Maghrabi, is also under consideration.
