Suranne Jones: 'I'm excited to tackle Doctor Foster again'

Suranne Jones was initially unsure whether a second season of Doctor Foster would work.

The 37-year-old actress took home the Leading Actress gong at the TV BAFTA Awards on Sunday night (08May16) for her title role as a doctor who discovers her husband is cheating on her.

The first season of the show was a smash hit, and Suranne will be reprising her role for a second which begins shooting later this year (16).

However, Suranne admits she was hesitant at first to sign up for another series, until she realised they could broach a topic rarely seen on television.

"I've read episode one and I'm due two and three," she told The Sun newspaper. "At first I didn't know whether there should be a series two but then I wanted to look at the aftermath of a divorce as I don't think there's been any of that on TV..."

Suranne added she was unsure whether the show would be a success due to its controversial topic. But by the end of the series, she had joined the millions of viewers tuning in to see what happened.

"I wondered whether people would come to a drama about affairs," she added. It was a slow burner but by episode three people were stopping me on the street.

"Then I really started to think this is big. I don't like to watch my things but by the finale I got behind the characters in a removed way."

The stunning actress has been enjoying some time at home in recent months after welcoming her first child, a son, with partner Laurence Akers earlier this year (16).

"Taking time off with my family has given me a new life experience which I think actors should have all the time," she smiled. "I'm loving being a mum - it was hard to leave him behind. It's everything that I thought it would be and more."
