Security holes found in iPhones, iPad
A new security hole has opened in the Apple iPhone, iPhone and iPod Touch, up alerts on the sensitivity of some of the world's hottest high-tech gadgets to hacker attacks.
The flaws in the software running those devices came to light after a German security agency has warned that criminals could use them to steal confidential data off the devices.
Apple, the world leader in technology by the greatest market value, said Thursday he is working on a patch that will be distributed in a software update to come.
With the security hole, an attacker can get malware on a system by encouraging the owner by clicking on an infected PDF file.
German Federal Office for Information Security vulnerabilities called "critical weaknesses" in the Apple operating system IOS.
Mobile Internet-connected devices are still subject to fewer attacks than PCs, but they could eventually be a juicy target for hackers because they are confidential bank warehouses, email, calendar, contacts and other data.
Software vulnerabilities are discovered all the time. What makes the latest discovery is alarming that the weaknesses are already actively exploited - albeit in a consensual manner.
The latest concerns have been raised by the emergence of a new version of a program to allow devices to Apple to run any software and bypass the restrictions that Apple keeps the notoriously software distributed by the through its online store.
There are security risks to do so, but many people find it liberating to install their own software.
Although this program is something people are looking for the weaknesses that the authors have found could easily be used for mischief, security experts.
There is an irony in the controversy: The site distributes the program offers a fix for the problem, but to obtain the fix, a user must first install the program.
