Four dead in PNS Mehran attack: news agency
KARACHI: Four people were killed Sunday in an armed attack by terrorists on PNS Mehran, a heavily guarded base of Pakistan Navy, located along Sharea Faisal, according to a news agency from abroad.
Television images showed flames rising into the air from PNS Mehran where, according to sources, the terrorists blew up a U.S. plane made P-3C Orion of the Pakistani Navy standing in the hangar.
Marine commandos, marines, rangers and police have made their way inside the naval base to neutralize the threat.
Five people, including a stranger, who were injured inside the PNS Mehran were transferred to a local hospital.
The electricity was suspended in the entire area was cordoned off and where a search operation is underway.
According to military officials and intelligence about 10-12 terrorists laced with sophisticated weapons and grenades entered PNS Mehran PAF Museum.
According to sources, the commandos surrounded the attackers.
The attack occurred in a facility of the Pakistan Navy is located in a high security area of the city and no citizen is allowed to enter.
Terrorists have executed five explosions in PNS Mehran which led to a gunfight.
Fire tenders from the Pakistan Navy, local firefighters and the City District Government has managed to extinguish the fire.
Powerful explosions were heard in areas such as Dalmia and shook buildings along roads and Rashid Minhar Sharea Faisal.
The presence of heavy contingents of rangers and police can be seen in PNS Mehran any emergency was declared in public hospitals
Earlier, four explosions were reported in the region near the base PAF Faisal.
Ambulances and fire tenders were seen rushing towards the base following the powerful blasts were heard in a wide radius.
Shots fired from sophisticated weapons were also heard after the blasts.
It is pertinent to mention here that in the weeks preceding three buses from the Pakistan Navy was attacked by terrorists in the city of Karachi.
