Tobey Maguire joins Life of Pi


LOS ANGELES: Tobey Maguire has booked a role in Ang Lee's adaptation of best-selling book by Yann Martel, "Life of Pi".

The story centers on a boy of 16 years, the Indians, played by Suraj Sharma, whose passage to a new life in America aboard a freighter ends in a shipwreck in the Pacific. It is left to fend for himself on a life raft with an orangutan, hyena and Bengal tiger.

Irrfan Khan plays the adult Pi, who is interviewed by a journalist. Maguire will play the journalist in a small role consisting of several days worth of work.

The film is currently shooting in India.

Maguire will be the role of Nick Carraway in the adaptation of Baz Lurhmann of "The Great Gatsby."
