Saudi Arabia: No offer to Mubarak

RIYADH: Saudi Ambassador in Cairo Ahmed Abdel-Aziz al-Qattan said Thursday that his country had not contacted the former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, after resigning.

In an interview published Thursday in Al Ahram, the Saudi ambassador dismissed reports of his country "has offered to host Mubarak."

The ambassador of Saudi Arabia has also strongly denied reports on Egypt threatens to withdraw its investments and to expel the workers if the former Egyptian president is tested.

Al-Qattan transmitted that he had attended two meetings which took place between Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal and Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Armed Forces and the issue of Mubarak n was not discussed.

Al-Qattan has refused to confirm reports before the start of Mubarak that Riyadh was ready to provide financial support to Egypt and set up a fund worth $ 5 billion in the case where Washington has suspended U.S. aid to Egypt.

"No doubt that if the U.S. suspends the support of Egypt, Saudi Arabia will not wait long to help Egypt, where President Hosni Mubarak or any other person," he said. (AFP)
