Grammys drop more than 30 categories

NEW YORK: Men and women will compete head-to-head, some of the most exotic prize as the best album of American Indians and save the best children's spoken word have been eliminated and the number of categories has been reduced by more than 30 in the biggest overhaul of the 53-year history of the Grammys.

Even if none of musical genres will be excluded from the claim Grammy changes will make the price much more competitive.

"It ups the game in terms of what it takes to receive a Grammy and preserves the high esteem he enjoyed in the community of creation, which is the most important," Recording Academy President and CEO of Neil Portnow said in a telephone interview Wednesday.

While the Academy has changed its rules and adapted to changes in the industry over the years, these changes follow its first major review of the price structure, a process that took more than a year.

The biggest change comes in the number of categories, cut from 109 to 78. Price will not be given in categories such as Rap Performance by a Duo or Group; some classes in instrumental music, pop, rock and country, traditional gospel, spoken-word album for children, and Best Classical Album Crossover; Zydeco or Cajun Music Album.

This does not mean that these types of music are not eligible, they will only compete in the estates.

Portnow said that the changes will make the process more stringent price.

"This is the case. We're talking the most coveted and prestigious award should be the bar high in terms of measuring the reception, he said.

Separate male and female vocal groups in areas such as pop, R & B and country are among those who are abandoned. Men and women will now compete in every area in general. This is already happening in the field of rock, which has no male and female voice categories.

"A great singer is a great singer is a great singer, and someone who has a gift in terms of their voice, and is on top of their game according to their performance and emotion, not really necessarily defined by gender, "Portnow said.
