Sania in pre-quarters of WTA event
Sania Mirza Indian qualifier Vania King grew up in a battle of three sets to book a pre-quarters of the WTA Family Circle Cup here. List of nerves, Sania overcame a deficit of a set of scoring a 6-7 (6) 6-4 6-2 in the form of local players in the second round of the hard court event.
King had ousted 16th seed Russian Vera Dushevina in her opening round. Sania will fight with two fourth seed Marion Bartoli of France or German wildcard Sabine Lisicki for a place in the last eight.
Lisicki and world number one will face 10 Bartoli in the second round Wednesday.
Somdev set up in conflict with World No. 26
Houston: Devvvarman Somdev began her clay court season with a 6-2 6-1 win beating American Robert Kendrick in the first round of the Championship U.S. Men's Clay Court here.
It was the second victory over Somdev Kendrick, ranked nine places below him at 80, as the meeting as he had beaten the American in Legg Mason Classic in 2008.
