Philadelphia Phillies are the favorites to win the National League

The Philadelphia Phillies are the favorites to win the National League East for the fifth consecutive season. Despite a series of injuries, the Phillies still have the talent to win the division comfortably.
However, the division does see some good teams that could challenge Philadelphia. Atlanta has a solid race last year and should be back this season.
As a fan Phillies, here's how I see the rest of the division is taking shape at the Phillies head to a fifth straight division crown
Atlanta Braves
The Braves have a new look this year without Bobby Cox management. However, Atlanta should not really lose a beat. Fredi Gonzalez takes over as manager, and it relies heavily on the second year star Jason Heyward (notes). Heyward had a great rookie season and should continue to flourish in a great player. Atlanta has plenty of talent at other positions, and updated at second base by adding Dan Uggla (notes). Derek Lowe (notes) and Tim Hudson (notes) to continue to anchor a strong rotation.
Atlanta should be the greatest threat to the Phillies.
Florida Marlins
It is difficult to always rely on Florida. They have a deep farm system that allows continually develop talent. This is handy because the Marlins are still young. Hanley Ramirez (notes) is their biggest star of the attack. Florida stellar pitching with Josh Johnson (notes), Ricky Nolasco (notes), Anibal Sanchez (notes), and newcomer Javier Vazquez (notes).
Florida could challenge for a playoff spot.
Washington Nationals
Nationals plucked Jayson Werth (Notes) Phillies in free agency. Werth should contribute to an increase in crime, including Ryan Zimmerman (notes), Adam LaRoche (notes), and Rick Ankiel (notes). Problems with Washington will involve pitching. Livan Hernandez is the ace nationals (notes), and it is far from anything the Phillies.
However, Washington should continue to improve.
New York Mets
This is a transition year for the Mets, who still have some talent. David Wright (notes) is the star, but Carols Beltran, Jason Bay (notes), and Jose Reyes (notes) are all important players. As usual, health is a concern for the Mets. Injuries have derailed ace Johan Santana (notes), which could be absent for some time. Mike Pelfrey (notes) will be the best pitcher in New York.
It will be a long season for the Mets
