EU files tactical appeal in Boeing trade spat

Geneva / Brussels: The European Union has lodged an appeal against a decision aircraft subsidies Friday, hours after the call for a victory, a tactical move in a chess game in transatlantic trade.

attractiveness of Europe came after the World Trade Organization has ruled that Boeing had received at least $ 5.3 billion in subsidies that were against the rules of the WTO, hailed as a "crystal clear" win by European Commission.

Washington also claimed victory in the ruling, comparing it to the recent conviction of the WTO that the U.S. says are even greater European subsidies to Airbus.

Together, the cases are disputes in the world's largest trading.
The case against the EU subsidies to Airbus - filed by the United States - is several months ahead of the case against U.S. aid to Boeing, sparking fears the European Airbus that could possibly have to stop receiving the aid in question months before its American rival. The EU call was taken quickly to fill this gap.

Both parties have 30 days to appeal, but once we called side, the other must decide whether to respond in five days.

"The victory of the European Union in this case against Boeing is very clear for all to see, however, the EU chose to quickly call the technical elements of the decision for legal reasons strategic -. Including to reduce what has been a time of growing disputes between the two parallel planes, "said John Clancy, spokesman for EU trade.

A spokesman for U.S. Trade Representative, Ron Kirk, accused the EU of dragging out the conflict rather than move to comply with a WTO ruling that found separate Airbus has received 20 billion dollars in subsidies.

"We believe the committee's findings into question by the EU are correct and that the Appellate Body will uphold them. The Europeans have not understood the message. Instead of prolonging the dispute to the WTO, they should be to determine how to comply with the findings against them, "spokesman Nefeterius McPherson said.

The United States, said Thursday's decision found only 2.7 billion dollars in subsidies to Boeing that it still has to remove because it has already eliminated some of its support.
