Japan radioactivity directly into atmosphere:IAEA

VIENNA: UN nuclear Japan, said the watchdog spent fuel storage pond was on fire in the reactor affected by the earthquake and the radioactivity release "directly" into the atmosphere, Vienna, the agency said Tuesday.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), citing information he received from the Japanese authorities in 0350 GMT, said the doses to 400 mSv per hour were recorded at the site of the plant capacity Fukushima.
He did not give details or compare the level of radiation, but the impact of more than 100 millisieverts, the level that can lead to cancer, according to the World Nuclear Association. IAEA uses a device to measure radiation doses received people.
"The Japanese authorities say there is a possibility that the fire was caused by the explosion of hydrogen," the IAEA said in a statement.
In Japan, authorities have warned the radiation levels was "significantly" higher around nuclear power plant on Tuesday after the bombings at the two reactors as well as the French Embassy said in a low-level radioactive winds could reach Tokyo in a few hours.
The IAEA said it had been informed "that the spent fuel from the reservoir into 4 blocks of the reactor Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on fire, and the radioactivity being released directly into the atmosphere."
She added: "The doses to 400 mSv per hour were registered at Japanese authorities say there is a possibility that the fire was caused by the explosion of hydrogen .."
Researchers say that people are about 12 millisievert from standard CT (computed tomography) heart scan.
IAEA says Japanese authorities have also reported that there was an explosion at the reactor unit number 2 at the factory Fukushima Daiichi, saying it occurred around 0620 local time in Japan.
