India beat Windies in final group match



CHENNAI: India has set up their clash with Australia in the quarterfinals after beating West Indies by 80 points in the final World Cup Group B match here at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.

Chasing a difficult target of 269, the West Indies were all for 188 runs in 43 overs after Devon Smith opens fighting sleeves of 81 finished in the 31st over.

For India paceman Zaheer Khan was the most successful launch with three of 26, while Yuvraj Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets each.

Earlier, hundreds of brilliant Yuvraj Singh led India to 268 after captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat first.

India got a big kick in the first over when star drummer Sachan Tendulkar was dismissed by Ravi Rampaul for only two.

However, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli repaired the damage to some extent, but Gambhir went for 22 as India reached 51.

Kohli was then joined by two and Yuvraj added 122 runs for the third wicket before Kohli left for 59.

Later, Yuvraj completed his 13th one-day century from 112 balls but was caught and bowled by Kieron Pollard for 113. Her sleeves were laced with four out of ten and two sixes.

But no other batsman could score significant, but Dhoni (22) as India were all at 268 in 49.1 overs.

Rampaul played beautifully to capture five wickets for 51 in his ten overs while Andre Russell won two.
