Cricket World Cup: Stage set for India-Eng thriller
Bangalore: weather threatens to spoil the game, as India take on England on Sunday for what is arguably the most anticipated games of the World Cup league.
The winner of the day-nighter on Sunday not only get bragging rights in Group B, but also carry greater certainty, both on Feb. 19 to April 2, the tournament is gaining steam.
Although both teams have little concern for their batting, bowling is a concern for both sides. India has given close to300 runs against Bangladesh, while the Netherlands has passed that landmark against England in a few days.
The match is under threat of rain and both teams will look to bat first not only to avoid the headaches of competing with the Duckworth-Lewis system for the settlement of the weather-affected matches in case the heavens.
Although India in the form batsman Virender Sehwag suffered a rib injury, England opening bowler Stuart Broad was indigestion ahead of the match. Nevertheless, both players have to take the field for the game and each team has a fully fit squad to choose from.
Both sides opened their campaign with victories in India, crushing co-hosts Bangladesh by 87 runs while England labored to a thrilling victory over the Netherlands six wicket.
Build-up before the game was marred by violence as fans looking for tickets to high-profile match clashed with police after a shortage of tickets for public sale.
The match of group B was transferred to Bangalore M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Eden Gardens in Calcutta due to the delay of construction at the stadium. (Reuters)
