Throwback time! Indian beauties at Cannes

While for Indians, Festival de Cannes is all about catching Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the red carpet, dressed to kill in yet another exquisite creation by a famous international designer, there's more to Cannes than Ash. World's biggest cinematic extravaganza becomes home to the most fashionable every May and there are many Indian beauties besides Mrs Bachchan, who have made an appearance at this international podium. In order to take some attention away from Ash (high time, guys) we thought of dong a throwback of sorts and enlisting the beauties who have attended the esteemed festival so far.

1. Sonam Kapoor - She may only come second to Aishwarya is garnering attention at the red carpet, but actress Sonam Kapoor's association with a leading cosmetic brand has only boosted her international stake. With Bolywood's leading stylist, Rhea Kapoor for a sister, Sonam has been spotted regularly at the red carpet since 2009. Known for her eclectic fashion choices, Sonam has become one of India's most fashionable celebrities thanks to her international outings.

2. Katrina Kaif - The only actress to have dared to sport scarlet tresses on her debut at Cannes, Kat grabbed a lot of eyeballs when she debuted at the Cannes red carpet in 2015. According to celebrity stylist, Ayesha Sanghi, who has styled Katrina during her early days in Bollywood, Katrina has the potential of becoming a regular at Cannes, courtesy her casual demeanour. "Katrina is one of those few people in Bollywood who are completely comfortable in their skin. Easy going, both in her attitude and fashion. She can be a breath of fresh air at these fashionable dos, where even the air is unrealistically fashionable."

3. Deepika Padukone - Deepika Padukone made an appearance at Cannes way back in 2010 as part of a brand promotion and though she hasn't had the opportunity of heading back to the French Riviera, she pretty much showcased her grace on her debut. Dressed in a Rohit Bal white and gold sari, Deepika looked nothing less than a classical Indian beauty. According to Ayesha, though Deepika looked lovely in the classical Indian attire, her tan makeup was proof of the fact that she was too young to take a call on her final look of her international red carpet debut. "She was made to look a shade darker than her actual complexion and that's a complete put off. Deepika seems more confident about her styling now than she looked back then," adds Ayesha.

4. Vidya Balan - The powerhouse performer made her Cannes debut and 2013 and was unfortunately criticised for sticking to her favourite designer, Sabyasachi Mukherjee's creations and not experimenting at all. According to Sanghi, her accesorization was nothing short of striking but her choice of clothes was very predictable. "The jadau nathni looked gorgeous with a Sabyasachi sati, but then it didn't work for Vidya because we were so done seeing her in saris already," claims Sanghi.

5. Mallika Sherawat - The only actress who has been consistently attending the fashion extravaganza since 2012, Mallika has showcased different flavours at the red carpet, each time she has sashayed across it. From Alexis Mabille to Dolce & Gabbana, the actress has worn it all and yes, she is headed to Cannes yet again!

6.Preity Zinta - The eternally chirpy actress marked her Cannes debut way back in 2008 and hers was a very low profile debut, both style wise and buzz wise.

7. Nimrat Kaur - Spotted at the red carpet in 2013, the pretty actress wore a lovely black Sabyasachi sari for her international debut.
