Bangladesh: Forty students die as bus crashes in canal

At least 40 schoolchildren were killed after their bus crashed into a canal in southern Bangladesh, police said.

A police officer in the district of Chittagong Ruhul Amin Siddiqui, told the BBC that 40 bodies had been recovered from the accident site.

Authorities said rescue work was underway. They said the toll was likely to rise as more bodies feared trapped inside the submerged vehicle.

The students were returning from a school soccer tournament, reports said.
