That’s a nude world record!

A world record was set naked today, when 400 people stripped naked and ran into the sea

People came to South Wales from all over the world to take part in the world of skinny-dipping record on Rhossili Beach, Gower.

They tore their clothes a little before 8 o'clock and bravely ran into the water screaming and whooping with delight apparently disrupted by wet conditions and wind.

But their cries of joy were replaced by oooh and aaah when their naked bodies entered the cold sea temperature.

Skinnydipper Lizzy White, 25, said: "I flew in from Australia via Brazil to take part - what was I thinking?

"But it was very fun and very exhilarating to strip off and dive into the waves, although they are much colder than I'm used to."

Shivering first thin Bear Steve Absalom, 29, said: "I'm pretty shy and I never swam naked in front to get it in front of 400 people was a bit of a revelation.

"But there was no embarrassment - it was just fun.

"The dashboard of the shore in the waves was the hardest but once you're in the water - what the hell!

"I am very proud to have helped prepare the new world record - it's something I can tell my grandchildren."

The event organizers said their challenge was to be verified by Guinness, but they believe they have smashed the previous record of skinny-dippers 250.

Spokesperson Alison Powell said: "It was very funny - I've never seen so many happy smiling faces.

"We expected 300 people but in the end we got much more - I am delighted to turn."

Organizers hope the sponsored skinny-dip raise over £ 5,000 for charity Marie Curie Cancer.

And many asked to have their nude photos taken in shallow water to prove to their sponsors that they took part in the event.

Naked Sue Jones, 39, from Carmarthen, said: "I am my picture on Facebook for all to see.

"I skinny-dipped before Greece and Spain. It was the first time in Wales ... and the last! "
