Flag Day is Tuesday
Northport village was awash with flags for about a month now since the Northport Rotary "Stars and Stripes: A Tribute to Veterans" fundraiser began in May.
First a sea of red, white and blue appeared on the lawn of Village Hall and around the gazebo in Village Park and the historical society and the fire departmen'ts Main Street headquarters.
By last count, over 200 had been commissioned and dedicated to veterans by members of the community of Northport.
After tomorrow, June 14, which is Flag Day, the poster will come down and be distributed to sponsors.
Our national flag is celebrated each year on this date, cccording the Library of Congress, because June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag.
Legislation read, "Resolved, that the flag of the United States are thirteen of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white. That the Union be thirteen stars, white on blue background, representing a new constellation "
