Spot on at last! Cheryl Cole finally outshines Paula Abdul as X Factor auditions roll into Chicago

After a series of disappointments wardrobe, new X Factor judge Cheryl Cole USA finally hit the right note.

The 27-year looked fresh and elegant as she arrived for the auditions in Chicago today.

She dressed her age in a pea Sonia by Sonia Rykiel coat, which she teamed with a pair of wedge heels.

And she finally managed to eclipse his colleagues judge Paula Abdul, 48, who wore a bizarre set that included a miniskirt and leopard patterned floral top.

The two judges have opted for the more popular trend this season - blocks of color - for their earlier outings together.

It was clear that the couple had not conferred before leaving the set before today - the first X Factor auditions in Los Angeles two wore purple and Fox at a party earlier this week they have opted for bright orange.

But Simon Cowell, who heads the group, said the pair are just fine - for now.

"They get on great," he said. Cheryl loves Paula.
