Osama bin Laden was killed Sunday morning by a team of Navy SEALs to a U.S. facility outside Islamabad, to end the hunt for the world's most wanted terrorist responsible for September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks killed 3,000 people. "Justice has been done," Obama said in a statement late Sunday night, announcing the murder.

Bin Laden and Al Qaeda, a terrorist organization he headed, were held responsible not only for 9/11but also for the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania bombing in 1998 and the USS Cole off Yemen in 2000 .

Pakistani authorities were not informed of the raid which was conducted by U.S. forces in the early hours of Sunday, the official said, adding only a very small group of people knew of the raid, even the United States.

"Last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I was informed in advance as possible of bin Laden," Obama said in his speech. But the information was far from certain and more work to do.
