Dinner for 171! The Queen treats the Obamas to a state banquet... and invites a few of their Hollywood friends
After a long day of public appearances, Obama and the First Lady of the United States Michelle have been entitled to a state banquet at Buckingham Palace hosted by the Queen this evening.
The star-studded banquet saw 171 guests arrive, including Tom Hanks, Kevin Spacey, Tim Burton, who dined on lamb, roasted potatoes with vanilla and Charlotte.
Always in Her Majesty's banquet in honor of the Obama family were David Cameron, Nick Clegg and Boris Johnson.
Former prime ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have also participated, as Ed Miliband, Richard Branson and Helena Bonham Carter.
Hollywood actor Hanks sitting beside Ffion Hague, wife of Minister of Foreign Affairs, while Kevin Spacey was next to Sophie, the Countess of Wessex - Prince Edward's wife.
Michelle Obama and the queen wore two white dresses at the event, while Obama chose a traditional black suit who boasted a white bow tie and matching shirt.
The First Lady accessorized her dress with gorgeous floor-length white gloves and long earrings dangling, while his hair was perfectly knotted up in a bun.
As the Queen welcomed Obama, she said: "Today, the U.S. remains our most important ally. But our relationship goes far beyond our military ties.
She celebrated the special relationship between the United States and Great Britain and stressed their "common history, common language and strong intellectual and cultural ties, during his welcoming speech.
Her Majesty said she had "fond memories" of the first meeting of the Obama family in 2009 at the G20 conference in London.
The sumptuous dinner was held in the palace ballroom, where the Prince of Wales hosted the dinner for 300 of the evening the royal wedding.
Earlier in the day Obama visited Number Ten after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Westminster Abbey.
It is the couple's first state visit to Britain and stay at Buckingham Palace, instead of having to cope with a regular five-star hotel.
They arrived last night after their visit to Ireland and spend the night tonight and tomorrow in the Belgian luxury suite of the Palace, which is the same after Prince William and Kate spent their first night as a married couple.
Despite not to attend the royal wedding last month, the President and his wife met with Prince William and his new wife today and talked for about 15 minutes with the newlyweds.
With the arrival of President Obama, they were greeted by a salvo of 41 guns alongside the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall
