ICC picks Afridi for team of the World Cup
MUMBAI: finalist in the World Cup-up Sri Lanka has contributed four players and the champions of India just three of the team of the International Cricket Council tournament was announced Sunday.
India defeated co-hosts of the tournament fellow Sri Lanka by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a man-of-the-match winning 91 not out.
But the ICC panel of five men expert, watching World Cup as a whole, opted for Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara as skipper.
Sri Sri others in the team were dashing opens Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene and veteran off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who made his last international appearance.
India trio were Sachin Tendulkar, a world champion at the sixth attempt, versatile Yuvraj Singh - the man of the tournament - and left-arm quick Zaheer Khan.
Khan was the joint most successful tournament bowler with 21 wickets alongside Pakistan leg-spinner and captain Shahid Afridi.
all-star body govering World XI has been completed by the duo of South African drummer / guardian AB de Villiers and fast bowler Dale Steyn and Australia's Shane Watson versatile.
