Derek Hough
Derek Hough (born May 17, 1985) is an American dancer, choreographer, musician and actor. A world champion in Latin dance, Hough has appeared since September 2007 (5 seasons 11) on the hit TV series American Dancing with the Stars, where he was champion three times (with Nicole Scherzinger, Brooke Burke and Jennifer Grey), twice semi-finalist (with Jennie Garth and Joanna Krupa) and quarter-finalist with Lil 'Kim. Hough has won three Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award nominations for Best Choreography (2009 and 2010) for his work on the show. Prior to joining Dancing with the Stars, Hough as Ren starred in the 2006 production of the original cast of Footloose: The Musical at Theatre Novelo in London's West End and on tour in the United Kingdom National 2006. Hough West End performance earned him a nomination as newcomers Stuart Phillips London Choice Awards that year theatergoers Whatsonstage.com. Hough made his Broadway debut January 8, 2010, starring with Kym Johnson and Mary Murphy in Burn the Floor for the last four performances on Broadway in the series. A founding member of the band Ballas Hough (formerly Almost Amy), shares Hough singing, playing guitar and writing credits on several CD's eponymous band, released by Hollywood Records in March 2009.
Early Life
Hough grew up one of five children in Sandy, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City. He has four sisters, Sharee, Marabeth, Katherine and Julianne. His sister Julianne Hough is also a professional dancer. All four grandparents were dancers Hough, and his parents met at a ballroom dance team at the university in Idaho.
When Hough was twelve, his parents sent him to London to live and study dance with coaches, Corky and Shirley Ballas. Julianne Hough has joined sister in London a few months later. Originally intending to stay for a year, Hough remained in London for ten years. (Julianne return after five years.) Ballasi The tutor helped the children Hough both sides of their own son, Mark Ballas, schooling them at the Italia Conti Academy. They were trained in singing, acting, gymnastics and many forms of dance, including jazz, ballet and tap. The three children have formed their own pop music trio 2B1G ("2 boys, 1 girl) and performed at dance competitions in the United Kingdom and the United States, and presented television in the United Kingdom.
Dancing
He attended and then taught at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
Hough played the role of Ren McCormack in the Tour of the United Kingdom and the track of the West End musical Footloose, which ran from April to November 2006.
Before that, a theater work Hough included in the role of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Millfield Theatre and dance company in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium.
Hough is a former IDSF World Youth Latin Champion (2002) for Poland with Aneta Piotrowska. He won the LA excellence Dancer of the Year and the New York Dance Dance Alliance Powers.
Hough is one of the panelists Bruno Tonioli DanceX on BBC One, the first episode that aired July 14, 2007.
Hough has also performed and choreographed music video Cheryl Cole Parachute, after being introduced to her by a mutual friend, Bruno Tonioli.
