Trevor Bayne win fifth Daytona 500
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Trevor Bayne finally made a miscalculation Fortunately for him, it didn't happen awaiting he missed the turn drag into Victory Lane at the Daytona 500.
The youngest driver to win the Great American Race gave the historic Wood Brothers team its fifth Daytona 500 victory – its first since 1976 with David Pearson – and Bayne did it in a No. 21 Ford that was retrofitted to look like Pearson's famed ride.
Trevor Bayne is an American car racer. He drives the #16 Ford for Roush-Fenway Racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and also drives part-time in the #21 Motorcraft Ford for Wood Brothers Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
In only his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, Trevor Bayne succeeds a caution-plagued 2011 Daytona 500. At 20 years and 1 day, he is the youngest driver to win the race and is the only driver to win the race in his first attempt (excluding the inaugural race in 1959). Trevor Bayne has been racing since the age of 5. With over 300 career wins and 22 titles including 3 World Karting Association Championships. In 2005, he was in the Allison Legacy Series, making 22 starts including 12 wins, 14 poles and 19 top 5's. In 2006, he joined Team Rensi in the USAR Pro Hooters Cup claiming the Rookie of the Year title at age 15, the youngest in history. In 2007, Bayne left Team Rensi to join Dale Earnhardt, Inc. In 2007 he competed in the USAR once again and in 2008 jumped to the Grand National East Division.
For the 2008 season, Bayne drove the #1 for Dale Earnhardt Incorporated in the NASCAR Camping World East Series. He had 6 Top 5's, two poles and one win at Thompson International Speedway winning from the pole in just his 6th start. He finished second in that seasons Toyota All-Star Showdown.
