Thrilling win for Bangladesh against Ireland
Dhaka: Bangladesh stung by surprise Ireland to revive their World Cup campaign with a 27-Run victory in front of some 25,000 noisy fans back home on Friday.
Bangladesh, bowled for 205 after the first blow in the match day-night hit back to dismiss the leading non-Test nation of 178 in 45 overs in a packed stadium of Sher-e-Bangla.
Former captain Mohammad Ashraful, who scored only one run, was hardly a hero with the ball, claiming two top-order wickets with his part-time off spin.
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan also took two wickets with spin left arm seamer to Shafiul Islam polished with a tail at a rapid pace, with 4-21 from eight overs.
Bangladesh, who lost his first match in India last week, lapped up the pressure in a game they had to win to stay in contention for the quarterfinals from Group B.
But the co-hosts who play all their matches at home, should continue to beat the Netherlands, and at least one of the established teams including England, South Africa and West Indies.
The victory helped Bangladesh to avenge two consecutive defeats by Ireland's major events, losing the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, and again in 2009 World Twenty20 in England.
Shakib turned to the back after one of the more Shafiul, resulting in left-Armer Abdul Razzaq in the second on and off the counter Naeem Islam in the third.
