Gay marriages to start in New York on July 25 (Agencies)

NEW YORK - Same-sex couples can marry in New York on 25 July, and New York hopes to attract a "NYC I do" campaign as officials prepare for an expected flood of weddings.
An estimated 66,000 same-sex couples marry in New York three years, adding about 284 million U.S. dollars to the state economy, according to a report of the Independent Democratic Conference, a separate state caucus of Democratic senators four.

Couples from all over the United States and abroad can start applying for marriage licenses from July 5. The $ 35 license must be obtained before any couple can marry in the State of New York.

"We're ready for more (weddings)," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday, speaking of the city's preparations.

New York, will become the sixth most populous state in the United States and to allow gay marriage. State senators voted 33-29 Friday to approve marriage equality and Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who introduced the measure, immediately signed it into law.

The marketing of the city and the tourism group, NYC & Company, said it was developed a "NYC I do" campaign to make the number one destination for gay couples.

"We expect the campaign will launch soon, will create hundreds of millions of dollars in economic benefits for additional $ 31 billion of the city's tourism industry," said NYC & Company Chief Executive George Fertitta.

Some organizations have already started their own advertising, such as the Museum of the City of New York, near Central Park in Manhattan, who tweeted on Monday: "Praise to the Museum space for your gay marriage We make a great party!"

NYC & Company also offers a list of hotels as "Love Has No Boundaries / Born This Way" package at Le Meridien Parker and "the right to unite" at the W New York special.

Bernadette Smith, founder of the Institute of gay marriage, who plans weddings, tweeted, "My phone and e-mail providers are jumping with the wedding activities in search of NY gay marriage and people looking for work! "

Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the District of Columbia allow gay marriage, and Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois and New Jersey have approved civil unions. The first legal gay marriages in the United States took place in Massachusetts in 2004.

In California last year a judge overturned the ban on gay marriage, but not the marriage can take place when the decision is challenged. It could set national policy, if the case is the U.S. Supreme Court.

But gay marriage is banned in 39 states.

  1. The "I DO" campaign is a wonderful idea. And I do hope it will bring a lot of tourism. To those tourist I would highly suggest using City Maps to navigate you through the city. It is a virtual and interactive NYC Map that can literally tell you anything from the price of parking on a street to happy hour specials at your favorite Mexican dive. I think the easier it is for people to navigate the more they will return!
