Government backers attack Jordan protest; 6 hurt



AMMAN, Jordan: Pro-government supporters attacked a rally of protesters demanding the dissolution of the Jordanian parliament and the firing of Prime Minister of the country, bombarding them with stones and injuring six people.

Friday came as violence around 1,000 Jordanians joined protests at the camp in central Amman, styled after Cairo's Liberation Square, a popular uprising led to the ouster of longtime President of the Egypt.

Late Thursday, 35 activists were injured in a clash similar to the central square opposite the Ministry of Interior in Amman.

It marked one of the worst incidents of violence within three months of demonstrations in which Jordanian militants, inspired by the pro-democracy protests swept the Arab world, have demanded more political say in the affairs of the kingdom.
