Elizabeth's letters reveal her love at age 17


In newly discovered love letters, a 17-year-old Elizabeth Taylor shared her dream with her fiance before returning later dying an engagement ring when the relationship has deteriorated. The handwritten letters are from 1949, when Taylor was engaged to William Pawley Jr, who was in his 20s and the son of a wealthy American businessman and ambassador.
Taylor, who died last week at 79, was already a famous actress of Hollywood at the time, who played in the film National Velvet, 1944.
Correspondence, including New Hamphire based RR auctioned in May, opening a window to see Taylor's life and love, before she was to be married and divorced eight times throughout his life.
"I received your son this morning on sending the ring and bracelet in New York," Taylor wrote Pawley in a letter dated September 20, 1949, when their relationship ended.
"I have the ring now - It is so sparkling in the sun - I guess this is the last time I have it on - for a time at least - to take care of her, Darling - for my heart is embeded [sic] there in the center of it. "
Taylor died March 23 of congestive heart failure, and is remembered as one of the great ladies of Hollywood leading. She won an Oscar for Butterfield 8 (1960) and another for Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf? (1966). R auction obtained the letters two years ago by a representative of Pawley.
There are 66 letters and 20 letters from Taylor to his mother, who said Pawley to leave her daughter alone when the engagement ended, "said Bobby Livingston, vice president of sales and marketing at RR auction.
The auction was set before Taylor died, and the points which had been expected to sell for $ 25,000 to $ 30,000, but this figure is likely to increase, "said Livingston.
