Samsung to unveil Galaxy S5 on February 24, sends out invites

Samsung Electronics Co. will release a new version of its flagship Galaxy S smartphone this month, but expectations are low that functions as a larger screen will lead to a sharp jump in sales given intensifying competition . Samsung on Tuesday sent out invitations for the event "Samsung Unpacked 5" on 24 February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The launch has been brought forward by about three weeks after the sales of Samsung S4 was weaker than expected , analysts said .
Manufacturer of world's largest smartphone is preparing for its weakest annual growth of mobile profits in seven years amid stiff competition from Apple Inc and Chinese sellers , and that the growth of high-end smartphones facilitates due to the near saturation in many markets.

The S5 is widely expected to have a larger screen , improved back camera and biometric features such as iris recognition or fingerprint scanner . You can also come with a Gear Galaxy smartwatch improved.

The launch at the annual meeting of the industry is adjusted to reflect a new emphasis on costs , which marks a departure from the glitzy marketing Samsung has deployed in the past, including the use of actors and a live orchestra filled launch S4 Radio City in New York Palau de la Música last year.

A larger screen for S5 can not be much more of a selling point as expected Apple to introduce large screen smartphones - Products mainstay of Samsung - later this year.

Apple is also expected to gain ground in China after it started selling iPhones through China Mobile, the largest mobile operator in the world by subscribers last month.

More challenges may come from China's PC maker Lenovo Group which announced last week it would buy Google Inc's Motorola Mobility handset unit for $2.9 billion.
