India News: Bombay: Explosions shake India's financial hub


Twenty-one people were killed and 113 injured, said the chief minister of Maharashtra state, Prithviraj Chavan.

He called the explosions during the busy evening in Mumbai during peak hours, "a coordinated attack by terrorists."

An explosion was reported in the Zaveri Bazaar, one in the business district of the Opera House and third in the Dadar district in the city center.

Police sources were reported as saying the explosions were caused by roadside bombs.

The attacks were the deadliest in Mumbai since November 2008, when gunmen launched on October 1st three days coordinated raid in which 166 people were killed.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh condemned the attacks and appealed to the people of Mumbai "to remain calm and show a united face."

President Barack Obama has strongly condemned the "outrageous" attacks and offered "to support India's efforts to bring the perpetrators of these terrible crimes to justice
