Carmageddon: Bicyclists start crosstown race against JetBlue flight
A pack of six cyclists scarfing bananas and donuts Saturday morning to prepare for their trip to the Long Beach race against the JetBlue.
The plane from pedals Crosstown Dash was born when a pair of bloggers dared an urban cycling club to take on JetBlue, after it offered 4 million round trips flights from Burbank to Long Beach. The airline offers the deal for people who want to fly above the traffic chaos expected during the "Carmageddon," closed the weekend of 10 miles of Highway 405.
"He's fine. We have the team assembled. We got the cameras installed,''said Don" Roadblock "Ward of Los Angeles, which is organizing the Bike Challenge." We will make it legal, and follow all traffic laws.''

Cyclists are members of the Wolfpack Hustle, a bike club whose members run from 50 to 70 miles every Monday, starting at Silver Lake Donut Tang.
Cyclists are expected to take off at 10:50 Saturday at the intersection of Cahuenga and Chandler boulevards in North Hollywood.
Bike blogger Joe Anthony leave the house to the airport at the same time, by car, for a flight 24:20 JetBlue from Burbank to Long Beach. The start of the race is timed so Anthony can not arrive at the airport about an hour before takeoff.
The flight is scheduled to arrive in Long Beach at 13:05. Once he lands, Anthony will take a trip to the aquarium in Long Beach - the finish line for him and the pack of cyclists.
Antoine and cyclists will be connected to GPS, and the race can be followed online at Bikecommutenews.com.
Ward said cyclists will follow the bike path along the river in Los Angeles for about 70% of the road - a leg that is always full of traffic lights and cross streets in Los Angeles and Vernon. The entire route for cyclists is 38.4 miles, he said.
