Initial reports said a fire broke out near the naval base at Zygi Evangelos Florakis in the early hours of the morning.
Two containers of explosive ignited, a spokesman for the police agency quoted the semi-official news of CNA. There were 98 containers in the deposit.
The fire is still under control, says the BBC's Tabitha Morgan in Nicosia.
The number of persons injured is not yet known.
