COLOMBO: Former drummer Stuart Law Australia was asked to be interim coach of the team of Sri Lanka to tour England next month. Law had helped outgoing Australian coach Trevor Bayliss since November 2009 and its successor should take over full time.
Bayliss, who was head coach for the past four years, said he would leave his post after the 2011 World Cup, where Sri Lanka were losing finalists. "We asked the right to take over as coach for the tour to England until we finalize our recruiting for the successor of Trevor Bayliss," SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga said.
The last two days were a period of upheaval for Sri Lankan cricket, with Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene down from their leadership roles, and the selection committee resigned.
Sri Lanka began a tour of England on the second week of May and the itinerary includes three Tests and five ODIs.
