NEW ORLEANS: Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage was arrested in New Orleans after a drunken argument with his wife outside a residence in the French Quarter, police said Saturday.
The movie star of 47 years was taken into custody at about 11:30 p.m. Friday and booked on suspicion of spousal battery, disturbing the peace and public drunkenness, New Orleans spokesman Police Garry Flot said in a written statement.
Cage has been summoned to appear in court May 31
The statement said Cage was seen talking with his wife in a street in the French Quarter of the city.
"(Nicolas Cage) and his wife were standing in front of a residence which he insisted was owned by the couple's rented," Flot said in the statement. "She did not agree and Cage grabbed her by the arm and drew what he thought was the right address. "
The actor then started hitting cars and tried to get into a taxi, Flot said.
"At this moment an officer who had been marked by gawkers have driven up on the couple, immediately noticed that Cage was heavily intoxicated, and ordered him to leave the cabin, which has led Cage to begin to scream. The officers subsequently Cage at Central Lock-Up, "Flot said.
There were no visible injuries to the wife of John Cage, he said.
