KARACHI: Various religious groups and political parties gave a call for a strike today to protest against alleged government complicity in the release of CIA operative Raymond Davis.
Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), Sunni Ittehad Council, Jamaat Islami, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam factions and various student organizations have announced protest rallies and sit-in against the release of Davis medium security alert across the country.
Consulates and other offices in several western countries will remain closed on Friday for fear of any untoward incident during the strike.
The protest rallies will be held after Friday prayers.
U.S. Embassy in Islamabad said in a notice of cessation of the embassy and consulate offices in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar today. U.S. nationals in Pakistan were also advised to ensure their safety.
