Oscars go young and hip

LOS ANGELES: It must have been younger, hipper Academy Awards, the ones that shook the conventions of popular ceremony, great-looking masters of ceremonies at the actors James Franco and Anne Hathaway, who, unlike the average age of comic books and TV talk shows the past years.
But the results could not be more traditional, with the "Speech of the King" - a prestigious, impeccably made a historical film that screams "Oscar" with every fiber in his being - has received the award for best picture and three other prizes for the more daring, contemporary contenders like " social network "and" Black Swan ". They also could not be more predictable. Leaders in other key categories throughout this long and repetitive season awards also took home trophies from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood Sunday night: best actor Colin Firth in "King's speech," the best actress Natalie Portman in "Black Swan", and supporting actor Christian Bale and Melissa Leo for "Fighter." "This King," directed by Tom Hooper, who has already won the Directors Guild - an excellent predictor of the success of the Oscar.
Despite numerous attempts to make the Oscars seem current - including the opening montage, which is inserted Franco and Hathaway in the best picture nominees, the "initial" style, and automatically adjust the "Harry Potter" parody - some of the biggest applause and a long standing ovations were a couple of Academy fellows Awards.
Kirk Douglas pleased the crowd, he jokingly tormented supporting-actress candidates, before announcing Leo, as the winner. As soon as she came on the scene, 94-year-old Douglas said to her: "You're prettier than you were in a" fighter "- but then, Leo went on to drop F-bomb during his speech. It was a rare moment of surprise - but the censors bleeped it in time.
Later, when a Billy Crystal - who held a ceremony on several occasions in 1990 - the audience erupted as one, as if ready to take over immediately.
Hathaway worked hard to keep the production of fun and light, playful twist to the fringed dress and joked that all homes should drink when she flubbed its introduction last year's winner of best actress, Sandra Bullock. Franco, who was also a best actor nominee for the true story of survival, "127 hours", was more calm and relaxed on stage as if he is working on a continuation of the stoner comedy "Pineapple Express."
They were even self-deprecating enough to recognize early on why they chose to lead the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
